Australia is, undoubtablty, one of the most popular destinations we move our customers to and this was certainly proved in 2022. In December’s blog post, we reported that Australia was in fact our top international baggage shipping destination according to last years data, but why do British expats favour this country so much?
Australia has a lot to offer for British citizens, including a shared language and similar culture. The incredible weather, high quality of life and beautiful scenery also make Brits fall in love with this wonderful place.

1. Sydney
Sydney came out on top when we researched into last year’s most popular Australian destination, with thousands of our customers moving to the other side of the world to enjoy the perks of city life in Oz.
Sydney is the capital city of New South Wales and is one of the countries largest cities. It is best known for being home to Sydney Opera House and Darling Harbour. Living in Sydney, you will never be short of things to do. From a thriving art culture to some of the best restaurants, cafes and bars, you will truly be able to immerse yourself in this wonderful city and become a living, breathing ‘Sydneysider’.
2. Melbourne
In second place, Melbourne scored as one of the favoured destinations ‘down under’ of last year.
Melbourne is the coastal capital of the Australian state of Victoria and is actually considered to be one of the most livable cities in the world, so we are not surprised it is so popular! The city is highly valued by British expats due to it’s reliable transport options, wide range of job opportunities, low crime rates and, of course, stunning weather. This wonderful city has something to offer for everyone and is certainly one of the best places to live in Australia!
3. Perth
The capital city of Western Australia, Perth, scored as the third most popular Ozzie destination in 2022.
Perth is known for it’s more relaxed culture and it actually has more hours of sunshine than any other capital city in Australia – why wouldn’t British expats want to move here?! People who live in the city say that the beaches and the outdoor lifestyle are some of the best things it has to offer. The job market here is also growing, which makes it a great place to live for Brits who are looking for employment opportunities.
4. Brisbane
Brisbane ranked as last years fourth most favoured Australian destination amongst our customers.
Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland and is located along the Brisbane River. The city is a popular place for British expats to set up their new home because of it’s warm, sunny weather, incredible nature and wide range of sporting activities to take part in during your free time. It is also well known for Lamingtons – an Australian cake made from squares of butter or sponge cake coated in a layer of chocolate sauce. 5. Adelaide
Last but certainly not least is Adelaide, which came out as the fifth most popular Australian destination in 2022.
Adelaide is a cosmopolitan city located in South Australia, surrounded by wonderful scenery. The city is probably most well known for being the opal capital of Australia, offering the best-selling opals worldwide to local and international clients. It is also a great place for expats to live as it is one of the most affordable cities in the country, but still offers a very high quality of life and excellent access to amenities – some would go so far to say it is one of Australia’s most underrated cities!
