There are loads of perks to living in France! The food, wine and beautiful landscapes are just a few of the reasons people from the UK up sticks and head south to France. We take you through some of the best places to live in France.

Paris

The French capital and the city of love, Paris appears to have it all. If you like the idea of living in a city then you can’t get much better than Paris. It’s also just a quick train journey back to London via the Eurostar so you can easily pop back to the UK to see family or friends too. Other perks include:

  • The economy. There are plenty of work opportunities in Paris and you’ll find there are lots of benefits to working in France. For starters employees receive 5 full weeks of annual leave a year!
  • The language barrier. Paris is an international, metropolitan city and whilst Parisians do respect Brits who attempt to speak French, you can get by without being fluent.
  • Things to do. Paris is a bustling city with plenty of things going on. It’s rich in culture and beautiful architecture. Imagine your weekends touring the Louvre, walking along the Sienne and treating yourself to a croque monsieur at a little Parisian cafe.

Montpellier

Montpellier is a city in the south of France, and sits right on the coast. It’s a beautiful, old city with a rich history. You’ll find beautiful botanical gardens, gothic 15th century buildings and staggering cathedral. Other perks include:

  • Access to the beach. Montpellier is located near the French coast and has some beautiful beaches nearby. Residents can easily pop down and enjoy beach life on the weekends. Perfect in the summer months.
  • The culture. Montpellier frequently hosts a large number of music and film festivals. Along with the historic buildings and botanic gardens, you’ll also find music festivals based around jazz, world music, rhythm and blues, and electronic.
  • Walk everywhere. You don’t need to get around with a car. The city isn’t that big and you can easily get around by walking or cycling. So you’ll be sure to get your daily step count up!

Dordogne

The Dordogne has the second-biggest British expat community so is a firm favourite among us Brits! It boasts stunning countryside and beautiful historic towns and medieval castles. Benefits of living in the Dordogne include:

  • The weather. You’ll have amazing weather in the Dordogne. There are high summer temperatures and lows in the winter. Expect it to top out around 40 degrees in July and August and drop to freezing or below in the depths of winter.
  • Things to do. There are so many things to do in the Dordogne! You can go kayaking, cycling, horse back riding or simply walking. There are also some fantastic musical festivals to enjoy.
  • Freshwater swimming. The Dordogne River is the cleanest in France and has been awarded UNESCO biosphere status. There are many supervised beaches in the Dordogne Valley.
